A philanthropist, Chief Abraham Ikechukwu Otti, has constructed 6 kilometres of roads, and built 20 houses for 20 indigent persons from different communities in Aguata Local Government Area (LGA), Anambra state and Ideato North LGA, Imo state.
Otti, while commissioning the road which cut across Umuchu to Amanasaa and houses built in various communities within the council areas, presented cheques of N1million each to the beneficiaries, as well as distributed food items worth millions of Naira to the indigents for Christmas festivities.
The benefactor, represented by the Chairman, Achalla Village, Umuchu, Nze Chimezie Ikeh, said the gesture was aimed at alleviating the suffering of people while eradicating poverty in the society.
He charged the beneficiaries to find solace in their new homes, make judicious use of the money to upgrade their lives, and become more functional members of the society.
Also speaking, the traditional ruler of Umuchu, Igwe Godson Ezechukwu, represented by the Palace Secretary, Prof. Echezona Ifejirika, noted that the kind gestures would not only make life more meaningful to recipients but also take the youths out of the streets.
Speaking in separate interviews, some of the beneficiaries, Mrs Alice Okeke, from Umuchu and Mrs Esther Obiagwu who hails from Akokwa (Imo state) expressed happiness over the magnanimity extended to them, and prayed God’s blessings upon the benefactor.
