Tinubu Said There Will Be Nothing Other Than Elected Chairmen And Councillors In LGAs — Tony Okocha

Tony Okocha, the Caretaker Committee Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State, has announced that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has articulated an eight-point peace plan to address the political conflict in the state.

A central component of this plan, according to Tony Okocha, is the insistence that only democratically elected officials should administer the local government areas (LGAs) in Rivers State.

Speaking in an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today, Okocha emphasised that President Tinubu explicitly stated that any form of leadership, such as caretaker committees, would not receive recognition.

This declaration followed Governor Siminalayi Fubara’s appointment of caretaker committees to oversee the 23 LGAs in Rivers State after the elected chairmen’s terms concluded on June 17.

Okocha criticised Governor Fubara’s actions, asserting that they are contrary to the president’s directive.

He revealed that the displaced local government chairmen are preparing to contest the caretaker appointments in the Court of Appeal, seeking to uphold the principle of elected governance.

According to Okocha, Tinubu’s peace resolution is designed to ensure political stability and democratic integrity within Rivers State.
