Hardship: Buhari Spent Eight Years In Office And Nobody Held A Protest In Nigeria — Ayo Fayose

Former Ekiti State Governor, Ayo Fayose, has criticised the lack of public protests during Muhammadu Buhari’s eight-year tenure as President of Nigeria, despite significant economic decline.

Speaking in an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today, Fayose pointed out that under Buhari, the exchange rate of the dollar skyrocketed from less than 300 Naira to much higher levels.

Despite these severe economic challenges, Fayose observed an apparent absence of public outcry or demonstrations against Buhari’s administration.

Fayose expressed his concerns about the seeming public apathy towards Buhari’s governance compared to the heightened scrutiny faced by the current President, Bola Tinubu.

He implied that the public’s response to leadership may be influenced by their perception of the leaders’ personalities.

Fayose suggested that President Tinubu’s perceived gentleness and reluctance to speak out might be contributing to the increased criticism and protests his administration is currently facing.

According to Fayose, this disparity in public response is troubling.

He warned against interpreting President Tinubu’s silence as a sign of weakness or passivity.

Instead, Fayose urged the public to exercise caution and show respect towards the government.

He highlighted that President Tinubu should not be judged harshly for his quiet demeanour, as this does not necessarily reflect his capability or effectiveness as a leader.

Fayose also emphasised that Nigeria’s problems are deeply rooted and systemic, rather than being the fault of any single leader.

He pointed out that the country’s economic and governance issues have been longstanding and cannot be attributed solely to the current administration.

He argued that the challenges facing Nigeria are the result of a cumulative effect of various factors over the years, requiring a comprehensive and collective effort to address.

Fayose said, “This hunger didn’t start one day. They had a rally at a time that Jonathan must go. Jonathan left, but hunger did not stop.

Buhari spent eight years in office, and nobody held a protest in Nigeria. When I left office, dollar was less than N300, but before Buhari left, the ratio had gone up.

“Nobody held Buhari to ransom until he left office. The simple reason why this current president is facing this is because he’s a gentleman and he does not talk.

“And I want to appeal to all of us: let us be very careful and not take the government’s silence for granted.Viêw_More
