The Take It Back movement has expressed outrage over Minister Nyesom Wike’s request for protesters to pay rents and security fees to use Eagle Square for their planned demonstration.
The movement has formally requested permission to use Eagles Square from August 1 to 10, 2024, as part of the #DaysOfRage initiative. However, the Minister’s demand for payment has thrown a spanner in the works. Wike claims his office has not received a formal letter requesting the use of Eagle Square, despite the movement’s assertions to the contrary.
In an interview with Channels Television, Damilare Adenola, Director of Mobilization for the Take It Back movement, slammed the Minister’s request, saying It’s absurd to ask protesters to pay rents and security fees when they are already struggling to make ends meet. This is a clear attempt to stifle our voices and suppress our right to peaceful protest.”

“When I saw the video of the Minister, I was amazed because I saw the Minister asking us to pay rents, pay security fees, my question to the minister is that how does the Minister expect Nigerian youths, a greater population of Nigerians youths who are impoverished, who are unemployed, have no jobs to afford the exorbitant amount he’s requesting for us to pay….Viêw_ More
