A Peaceful Demonstration Is Possible. Destruction Of Property Is Not Necessary – Seriake Dickson.

On 24th July, 2024 the former Governor of Bayelsa State and also the Nigerian Senator representing Bayelsa State West Senatorial District, Senator Seriake Dickson while reacting to the proposed 1st August nationwide protest against the administration of the President of Nigeria, Chief Bola Ahmed Tinubu, revealed that a peaceful demonstration was possible, but violence and destruction of property was not necessary because their voices would be heard without resort to violence in the country.

According to the Daily Post, the Nigerian Senator representing Bayelsa State West Senatorial District, Senator Seriake Dickson said “A peaceful demonstration is possible. Violence and destruction of property is not necessary. Your voices will be heard without resort to violence. Governors and leaders across the country should engage the youth, listen to their anger and frustrations, and assuage them. We should listen to them, it is important that we do, so that when the issues are addressed, it would be with their inputs.”

On the other hand, the Presidential Candidate from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) of the just concluded General Election, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, said that any attempt to suppress the rights of the good citizens of the country for a peaceful protest was not only unconstitutional but a direct affront to the democracy of the country.
