Wike: I Have Right To Go To Court To Say, CJ Of Rivers Do Not Recognise These People–Darlington Orji

According to the report from the Vanguard, the Caretaker Chairman of Ikwerre Local Government Area in Rivers State, Darlington Orji asserted his right to challenge the legitimacy of the defected lawmakers claiming to be members of the Rivers State House of Assembly.

He argued that until the Supreme Court provides a ruling on their status, the defected lawmakers should not be recognized as legal members of the assembly.

He highlighted the lower court’s lack of jurisdiction in deciding on the matter and emphasized the need for a higher court’s decision to determine the lawmakers membership.

He expressed concern that allowing unverified members to issue statements on behalf of the assembly could set a dangerous precedent, and called for a thorough legal examination of the lawmakers’ claims.

He said, “I have a right to go to court to say, please, the Chief Judge of Rivers State, don’t recognise these people. As long as we are concerned, they are not known to law until their status is pronounced by the Supreme Court, then we will know whether they are members of Rivers State House of Assembly.

What is happening there is that a group of people can come together and issue out any statement. They are not members, and until their status is being cleared, the Appeal Court never said they are members of the Rivers State House of Assembly, the Appeal Court said that the lower court that gave that order lacks the jurisdiction to do that….Discover _More
