Awolowo Once Said The Worst Civilian Government Is Better Than The Best Military Regime–Anthony Sani

The recent appearance of Russian flags during President Tinubu’s inauguration in Nigeria has sparked controversy and speculation. Anthony Sani, former Secretary General of the Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF), has offered his insights on this unexpected occurrence and its potential implications for Nigeria’s political landscape.

In a recent statement to The Sun, Anthony Sani, a prominent voice in Nigerian politics, addressed the controversy surrounding the presence of Russian flags at President Tinubu’s inauguration. Sani outlined two prevailing theories regarding the flags’ origin: a tailor’s error or a deliberate display of Russian influence.

I have no idea about the origin of the Russian flags,” Sani stated. “Some people say the flags were supposed to be military flags and the tailor made a mistake, while others say the flags are from Russia.

Regardless of the flags’ source, Sani emphasized the potential harm in both scenarios. He invoked the wisdom of Chief Awolowo, noting, “Like Chief Awolowo once said, the worst civilian government is better than the best military regime.”

Sani cautioned against calls for military intervention, suggesting that such demands typically come from those unfamiliar with military rule. He also dismissed the notion of seeking Russian influence, stating, “It is important to point out that the problems of Nigeria are economic, and Russia’s economy is not that strong for it to help Nigeria. This is because Russia is only strong militarily and not economically.”
