Reactions As Sen. Sani Says Kano Protesters May Have Waved Russian Flag Without Knowing What It Is

A former lawmaker, who represented Kaduna Central Senatorial District in the 8th National Assembly, Senator Shehu Sani, has sparked a flurry of reactions from fellow Nigerians over his comment about photos and videos showing protesters in the ongoing #EndBadGovernance in Kano State waving Russian flag.

These images surfaced online on Saturday and quickly went viral.

Senator Sani, who shared his opinion about the images via his X (formerly Twitter) handle, blamed the protester’s action on ignorance.

He wrote:

“Someone hiding somewhere must have shared the Russian flags to the Kano protesters to raise, perhaps without them knowing what it is or it’s meant.”

Meanwhile, it is worth noting that the development in Kano has got security experts and people in the diplomatic circles worried about what they perceive as foreign interference.

They say that the development does not augur well for the country, warning Nigerians and the federal government to guard against foreign incursion.

However, Senator Sani’s post attracted diverse opinions and reactions. Many decried the level of ignorance in Northern Nigeria and chided the elite for doing next to nothing to tackle the situation. A few others felt the senator was tacitly defending his fellow northerners using ignorance as an excuse.
