In a concerning turn of events, a social media post by a handle identified as Lagospedia has sparked controversy and condemnation from the Lagos State Government. The post, made on X (formerly Twitter), called for a purported #IgboMustGo protest scheduled from August 20th to 30th, 2024, in Lagos and across Southwest Nigeria.
The message, which has since gone viral, urged Igbo residents to vacate the region and suggested that Yorubas residing in the Southeast should return to their homeland.
Reacting swiftly to the inflammatory post, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State issued a strong rebuttal through his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Gboyega Akosile. The Governor, speaking on behalf of the Lagos State Government, vehemently denounced the message as reckless, divisive, and potentially dangerous to the peace and unity of the state.
Sanwo-Olu emphasized that Lagos remains a home for all Nigerians, irrespective of their ethnic background, and reaffirmed the commitment of his administration to fostering unity among all residents.
“This post is not only divisive but an attempt to sow seeds of discord among our people,” Governor Sanwo-Olu stated, highlighting the importance of maintaining harmony and tolerance in the cosmopolitan city of Lagos.
