The severe economic hardship has hit Nigerians hard over the past one year, as costs of foodstuffs and other commodities needed for daily survival, have skyrocketed. This has propelled Nigerians to plan a nationwide protest beginning from the 1st of August, 2024 through to the 10th of August, 2024.
In a report by Channels Television on Wednesday, 31st of July, 2024, the Governor of Kano State, Abba Yusuf, has openly supported the nationwide hunger protest and revealed that he will join the youths to protest peacefully, if they wish for him to do so.
Governor Abba Yusuf, a chieftain of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), further advised youths to carry out a peaceful procession and not allow criminal elements to use the opportunity to cause havoc.
The upcoming nationwide protest has generated mixed reactions from Nigerians. Some have encouraged a peaceful protest, as it is supported by the Nigerian constitution.
