Tribalism, Religion Are 2 Devil Left Behind When British Left, Nobody Makes Himself Igbo—Bode George

According to Sahara Reporters, Bode George, a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), recently voiced his worries about how religious intolerance and tribalism could hinder Nigeria’s progress and development.

When the government fails its citizens, George said on Arise News, it is crucial for them to be protected and to speak out. Tribalism and religious intolerance, he said, severely limit the political space in Nigeria and impede development.

These problems, George said, have their roots in the colonial era, and he called them the “devils” that lingered after the British left. He pointed out that religious intolerance and tribalism were imposed and questioned their usefulness in human resource management.

His position is that people’s religious or ethnic identities are not something they consciously choose. When the British departed from Nigeria, they left two devils behind.
