They’re Sending N50,000 To 3M Nigerians, How Does That Sense In A Country Of 200M People-Dele Momodu

Dele Momodu, a prominent publisher and former PDP presidential hopeful, has criticized the Nigerian government’s cash transfer program, describing it as “demeaning” and inefficient. In an interview with Channels Television, Momodu argued that distributing N50,000 to 3 million Nigerians is insignificant compared to the country’s population of over 200 million.

Instead, Momodu proposed that the government should provide larger sums, such as N1 million, to a smaller number of people, potentially creating over 1 million new entrepreneurs. This approach, he believes, would have a more significant impact on the economy, as these entrepreneurs would employ others, creating a domino effect.

Momodu also compared the current program to a similar initiative under the Buhari administration, where people lined up to collect N5,000, describing it as undignified. He emphasized that cash transfers should be done in a way that empowers citizens, not treats them like beggars.

In his words;

They said they’re sending N50,000 to about 3 million Nigerians. How does that make sense in a country of over 200 million people. That money could have created more than one million fresh entrepreneurs who will get one million naira each immediately and then these ones due to dominos effect, these ones will employ people 5-10 people each.

You don’t give money as if it’s water. The Buhari people did it. They’ll put cash on the table, at this time and age and people will line up like beggars and collect N5,000. It’s demeaning to Nigerians…..Viêw _More
