Protest: We Wash Our Hands Off Rebellious Subjects, Enemies Of Peace – Prof Ishaq Akintola

The Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC) has announced its decision not to participate in the planned protest against economic hardship in Nigeria. MURIC claims that Lagos is being targeted for possible revenge over electoral losses.

The Independent reported that Professor Ishaq Akintola, MURIC’s Executive Director, urged Nigerian youths not to be used for selfish purposes. He advised them to be creative and innovative rather than destructive.

Akintola acknowledged the Federal Government’s efforts to alleviate the suffering of the masses, noting that these issues are not unique to Nigeria but are global challenges.

He criticized the destructive nature of past protests, particularly referencing the EndSARS protest, which resulted in significant damage and looting in Lagos.

MURIC emphasized that government properties belong to the public, and targeting them in protests is wasteful and irrational. They believe the new protest aims to cause similar chaos, specifically in Lagos, which they see as a vengeful act.

MURIC insists on peaceful and orderly demonstrations, distinguishing their past participation in peaceful protests from the violent ones planned now.

Part of their statement read, “MURIC will only join hands with people who want to build Nigeria.”

“We wash our hands off rebellious subjects, enemies of peace. We have a duty to remain constant with the motto of our organization, which is Dialogue, Not Violence.”

“We will not participate in burning and looting. We prefer to bring smiles on the faces of Nigerians, not pain and anguish.”

The organization praised recent government measures such as food distributions, salary cuts by lawmakers, and a significant increase in the minimum wage.

MURIC supports dialogue over violence and aims to contribute positively to Nigeria’s development. They called on security agencies to protect peaceful assemblies and ensure order during protests…..Viêw_More
