70,00 Is Like A Bag Of Rice, Money That Will But A Bag Of Rice -Ali Ndume Criticizes Again

Senator Ali Ndume, representing Borno South senatorial district, has continued to express his dissatisfaction with the Bola Tinubu-led government, this time criticizing the newly approved N70,000 minimum wage for Nigerian workers. Despite being a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Ndume argued that the new minimum wage is insufficient to sustain a household, stating it’s only enough to buy a 50kg bag of rice.

In a video posted by Channels Television, Ndume said, “People are suffering, people are angry, people are not happy…realistically, that (N70,000) is like a bag of rice, money that will buy a bag of rice or cover the cost of a bag of rice.” He urged President Tinubu to review the minimum wage further to align with the country’s economic realities.

Ndume’s comments come after a meeting between President Tinubu and labor leaders, where the new minimum wage was agreed upon. While the government initially proposed N62,000 and later revised it to N70,000, labor leaders reduced their demand from N250,000. Despite the increase, Ndume believes the new wage fails to address the broader economic challenges faced by Nigerians.

This criticism follows Ndume’s recent removal as Senate chief whip after speaking out against the president…..Viêw _More
