I Was In Labour For 10Yrs. So We Want To Contest Election And Take Some Seats From Rivers- Nwanyanwu

Dan Nwanyanwu, the former chairman of the Labour Party (LP), discussed the crises in Rivers State and other topics in an interview with Arise TV. To start, allow me to clarify a few things: Rivers State’s House of Assembly does not consist of two factions.

In Rivers State, there is just a single, valid House of Assembly. Despite not being a native of Rivers State, I am entitled to discuss anything pertaining to that state. Allow me to now explain our interest in this. We demand that elections be held in 27 local governments. Don’t call me former; I currently belong to the Zenith Labor Party.

A State House of Assembly member may lose their position, as stipulated under section 109 1G of the law. It is merely a diversion from the legal process that if you give your place to someone else in the state legislature after leaving the party whose vehicle you entered. Additionally, His Excellency would agree.

Of the 26 states I discussed, this one is its kind. On the basis of your party’s platform, you cannot gain a seat in the State assembly; instead, it goes to another. Wike stated that it is impossible to follow the mandate, then why are we being so haughty? People from Nigeria ought to quit acting haughty.

There are those of us who are working to make sure that the proper things are done since the law has made it mandatory. The legal system is not necessary, but once you appear in court—whether for serious issues or silly ones—you have to follow the rulings, even when they are just delaying the bad times.

Since they have lost their seats, those State House of Assembly members will never be able to get them back unless they are elected to another office by a different political party or are allowed to run again by their current party.

Proceed to the Supreme Court. The train has already left the station, so why are we acting in this manner when we are unable to alter the objectives? Are we blind to the fact that it’s covered? On this, the Supreme Court has actually made a decision. The identical clause in the constitution that states that there may be division within the party was not broken or there was no division.

He Said: “I was in Labour for 10 years. So we want to contest the election and take some seats from Rivers. That is our locus. That is why we are concerned. That’s why we are saying they have lost their position or status of assembly and it will never change forever until there is another election….Viêw _More
