Sen Ndume Should Resign His Membership Of APC, Join Any Opposition Party Of His Choice- Umar Ganduje

The Nigerian Senate has removed Senator Mohamed Ali Ndume from his position as Chief Whip following his open criticism of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s policies. The announcement was made by Senate President Godswill Akpabio during a vote, stating that members of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) Senate Caucus supported the decision to relieve Ndume of his duties.

According to Daily Trust, the move came after Ndume publicly expressed his disapproval of President Tinubu’s handling of economic challenges, including food shortages and security concerns. The senior senator’s critical stance led to a swift response from the APC party leadership, who demanded that Ndume resign his membership and join an opposition party of his choice.

In a letter signed by Barrister Ajibola Bashiru, the national secretary of the APC, and Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, the national chairman, the party emphasized their position, stating, “Senator Ndume should resign his membership of the APC and join any opposition party of his choice.”

The removal of Senator Ndume from his leadership role is seen by many as an attempt to silence dissenting voices within the party and the legislature. This action has raised serious questions about the APC’s commitment to democratic principles and the freedom of expression, particularly when it comes to differing opinions being voiced by elected representatives.

The decision to replace Ndume with Senator Tahir Mungono as the new Chief Whip further underscores the party’s intolerance for internal criticism. It sends a troubling message that those who dare to speak out against the policies of the president or the party leadership may face severe consequences, including the loss of their positions and potentially their party membership…..Viêw _More
