Each State And The FCT Have Received 20 Trucks Of Rice For Distribution To Ease The Food Shortage-FG

The federal government has sent 20 trailer loads of 25 kg of rice to each of the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) in an effort to ease the current nationwide food scarcity.

The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, reportedly revealed this during a press conference following the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting at the State House in Abuja, according to a report published by Arise News on Monday.

In an effort to alleviate the food scarcity, the Minister stated that the rice would be given to the most disadvantaged members of society.

He said, “Each state of the federation and the FCT have received 20 trucks of rice for onward distribution to the most vulnerable to ease the food shortage being experienced.”

The Minister also disclosed that a meeting between labor leaders and President Bola Tinubu has been organized by the government for this Thursday in order to conclude talks over the new minimum wage for Nigerian workers.

The previous meeting, which took place last week, was followed by this one. He also announced that, as of July 15, 2024, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) had withdrawn its prohibition on Nigerian passport holders obtaining visas. He claimed that talks between the governments of the United Arab Emirates and Nigeria led to this.

Holders of Nigerian passports will now be able to apply for visas to enter the UAE thanks to this arrangement.

Nigerians were prohibited from entering the UAE as of October 2022, and Emirates Airlines ceased flights to Nigeria in November of the same year.

The Minister said, “You are aware that Nigeria has been discussing with the Arab United Emirates on the issue of visa for Nigerian passport holders going to the United Arab Emirates.

“Today, an agreement has been reached on that, and effective from today, 15th July, Nigerian passport holders are able to obtain to go to the United Arab Emirates….Viêw _ More
