Buratai: There Are Many Yoruba And Igbo In North, We Should Not Allow Politics To Becloud Our Unity

According to Punch Newspaper, Former Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Tukur Buratai, has expressed strong support for the unity of Nigeria, urging those harboring thoughts of disintegration to abandon such ideas. Buratai made these remarks during an event in Kuta, Osun State, on Sunday, held to celebrate the 60th birthday of Olowu of Kuta, Oba Adekunle Oyelude. The gathering was notable for the presence of several high-profile figures, including the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, former President Olusegun Obasanjo, and former Osun State Governor, Olagunsoye Oyinlola

During his address, Buratai praised Oba Adekunle Oyelude for his non-partisan stance and his efforts in fostering unity among different ethnic groups in Nigeria. Highlighting the importance of national unity, Buratai criticized those advocating for the country’s disintegration, suggesting that such individuals should be prepared to take their desired portion of the country and relocate it to the ocean. He emphasized that the lessons learned from Nigeria’s civil war demonstrate that any attempts to divide the nation would ultimately be unsuccessful.

The former Chief of Army Staff underscored the need for all Nigerians to embrace unity, which he described as essential for the country’s progress and development. He stressed that the diverse ethnic composition of Nigeria should be seen as a strength rather than a weakness. Buratai’s remarks were aimed at reinforcing the idea that political differences should not be allowed to overshadow the common goal of maintaining the country’s sovereignty and unity.

Buratai’s speech was a call to action for all Nigerians to work together in overcoming challenges and fostering an environment of peace and cooperation. He pointed out that the integration of various ethnic groups across different regions of Nigeria is a testament to the nation’s inherent unity. He mentioned that many Hausas reside in the South, while numerous Yoruba and Igbo people live in the North, illustrating the deep interconnections within the country.

The event in Kuta served as a platform for Buratai to reaffirm his belief in a united Nigeria, urging citizens to set aside political differences and focus on the collective goal of national development. His message was clear: unity is non-negotiable, and any attempt to fragment the nation is not only impractical but also detrimental to the progress made so far.

He said: “There are many Hausas here, there are many Yoruba and Igbo in the North. So, we should not allow politics to becloud our sense of unity and sovereignty….Viêw _ More
