In an Interview with Punch News, Maj. Gen. Garba Wahab (retd.), the Director General of the Nigerian Army Resource Center, talks with Solomon Odeniyi about the ongoing terrorist attacks in the Northeast, the rise in suicide bombs, and the critical role the courts play in putting an end to the epidemic.
Terrorism is not tolerated. You people are not doing this right. See, everyone believes that terrorism is something that can be turned on and off with a switch. It’s not. Those that are interested in it have an ideology, to begin with. An ideology is something that exists in the brain and thoughts.They think that the drug trade has enormous financial potential.
At first, they were permitted. When the Americans realized how cocaine was affecting their children on the streets, they rebelled against it and told their children, “No, you have to stop this.” However, the truth is that cocaine is the reason behind the actions of individuals who are rebelling in Colombia. Even if things have somewhat calmed down, they are still there as of right now
Thus, it doesn’t simply disappear. It takes a lot of work, and the military can’t stop it by itself. The military can establish a conducive atmosphere in which the administration can address the issues that gave rise to their potential as terrorists. The military won’t be the ones to generate employment. The military won’t tell folks not to do this again in conversation. We have a lot of unfinished business. The military is supposed to handle them all. This isn’t a conflict between two nations.
No one goes to sleep while you are doing things and they are effective. You think everything is typical. You are working with individuals who have made it clear that this is how they will live. For a very long time, Gwoza was one of the hotspots in the Northeast, although conditions there were calm. Now, people are going about their daily lives, believing everything is OK.
During our monthly lecture series, a doctor from the Defence College recently discussed how terrorists were recruiting women to carry out suicide bombs. She just gave a speech prior to the events in Gwoza. Without elaboration, she stated that terrorists will increasingly target women over males due to the widespread perception that men are distrustful of women.
