Chief Charles Ogbonnaya, a respected former leader of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Abia State, recently warned against any attempts to divide Igboland amidst discussions about regional governance restructuring. He stressed the need to keep all Igbo-speaking local governments united within the South-East region, citing the example of the Yoruba-speaking local governments in the South-West.

Chief Ogbonnaya, who served as a commissioner in Abia State, emphasized the significance of regions like Ohaji/Egbema, stressing its role as a crucial economic center due to its status as an oil-producing area. He called on South-East members of the National Assembly to work towards preserving the unity of Igbo-speaking communities in their region.
