Gov Diri Joined Forces With Atiku Against Tinubu, Niger Delta Group Alleges

The Niger Delta Integrity Movement (NDIM) has accused Bayelsa Governor Douye Diri of aligning with former Vice President Atiku Abubakar to thwart the presidential aspirations of Bola Tinubu, According to THE NATION reports.

In a statement, NDIM’s National Coordinator, Bassey Otom Bassey, claimed that Diri’s support for Atiku, particularly through endorsing the CBN’s Naira redesign policy, was detrimental to southern political interests aiming for the presidency in 2023. The group criticized Diri for allegedly betraying fellow southern politician Nyesom Wike, then Governor of Rivers State and a presidential hopeful within the PDP.

Bassey asserted that Diri’s actions, including his stance on the Naira redesign, indicated a preference for a northern presidency after Buhari’s tenure, contrary to calls for regional rotation and equity. He condemned Diri and Edo State Governor Godwin Obaseki for supporting the controversial CBN policy, despite its adverse effects on Nigerians, alleging their motives were driven by political vendetta against Tinubu.

NDIM lamented the impact of Diri’s choices on ordinary citizens, accusing him of prioritizing political maneuvering over public welfare.
