United States President Joe Biden recently made a statement claiming a decline in Hamas’s popularity among Palestinians in the West Bank. However, a recent poll conducted by the Palestinian Center for Policy and Survey Research (PCPSR) contradicts this assertion.
The survey, released last month, revealed that support for Hamas in both the West Bank and Gaza has actually increased.
The PCPSR poll indicated that overall support for Hamas in the region now stands at 40%, showing a significant six-point rise from the previous survey conducted just three months earlier.
Prior to the recent conflict, support for Hamas was at 22%.
Specifically in the West Bank, the survey showed that 41% of respondents expressed support for Hamas, representing a growth from 35% in the previous survey.
In contrast, only 17% showed allegiance to Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas’s Fatah party, up from 12% in the previous poll.
In the Gaza Strip, support for Hamas was at 38%, an increase from 34% recorded three months ago. Meanwhile, support for Fatah in Gaza slightly decreased from 25% in the previous survey to 24% in the latest poll.
