Oseni Rufai Confirms The Order By The Court To Sadiya Umar-Farouq To Account For N729 Billion

The Court has ordered Sadiya Umar-Farouq, Buhari’s Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, to account for the N729 billion paid to impoverished Nigerians, according to a post by Oseni Rufai on his verified Twitter page.

Ex-Humanitarian Affairs Minister Sadiya Umar-Farouq is required by a Lagos Federal High Court ruling to explain in detail the six-month distribution of N729 billion to 24.3 million low-income Nigerians. The court ordered the ex-minister to reveal the recipients’ identities, as well as the states they hail from and the total amounts they were given.

This verdict was reached after the Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) filed a Freedom of Information complaint. Using the Freedom of Information Act as a basis, Justice Dipeolu ruled that the ex-minister must reveal the sought-after information.

He further demanded an explanation from the minister on the beneficiaries’ N5,000 payments. Now that the court judgement has been issued, SERAP is urging President Bola Tinubu to make sure that all spending data pertaining to the N729 billion disbursement are immediately released.
