Lebanese FM Meets European Officials As Part Of Efforts To Prevent War With Israel

Lebanon’s Foreign Minister Abdullah Bouhabib is currently engaged in a pivotal diplomatic mission across Europe and North America, aiming to mitigate the escalating tensions between Israel and the Iran-backed Hezbollah group that threaten to escalate into full-scale war, according to Times of Israel.

In Brussels, Bouhabib held crucial discussions with European Union officials, including Josep Borrell, the outgoing EU foreign policy chief. Their meeting, described as a “working lunch,” focused on strategies to prevent the conflict from spiraling further.

The EU expressed its commitment to supporting Lebanon and emphasized the importance of efforts to de-escalate tensions along the southern Lebanese border.

Borrell underscored the EU’s backing for the Lebanese Armed Forces and the UN Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) in maintaining peace and stability in the region.

Following his engagements in Brussels, Bouhabib’s diplomatic tour extends to North America. In New York, he plans to meet with United Nations representatives to garner international support for Lebanon’s efforts towards peace.

His subsequent visit to Washington, DC, includes discussions with American officials, highlighting Lebanon’s stance on regional stability and its efforts to prevent a broader conflict.

In Canada, Bouhabib will engage with Canadian counterparts, continuing his advocacy for diplomatic solutions to avoid a large-scale war that could destabilize the entire region. His multi-country tour underscores Lebanon’s proactive approach to international diplomacy and its commitment to finding peaceful resolutions amidst escalating tensions.

The National News Agency of Lebanon emphasized that Bouhabib’s diplomatic efforts are integral to Lebanon’s strategy of reducing escalation risks and averting a regional catastrophe.
