Zion Ministry Is Not Catholic Ministry And Has No Catholic Approval- Father Kelvin Ugwu

Reverend Father Kelvin Ugwu has sparked a heated debate with his recent Facebook post criticizing Evangelist Chukwuebuka Anozie Obi, the founder of Zion Prayer Movement and Outreach Ministry.

Father Ugwu accused Evangelist Obi of misleading followers by mimicking Catholic traditions, despite the Zion ministry not being an approved Catholic entity.

“Let us take this seriously… Zion ministry is not Catholic ministry and has no Catholic approval. As Catholics, you are to listen to the Bishop,” Father Ugwu declared.

He alleged that Evangelist Obi’s ministry was initially presented as a Catholic extension, a facade maintained to attract and retain followers.

Father Ugwu pointed out several Catholic practices adopted by the Zion Ministry, such as reciting the rosary, conducting the stations of the cross, and using Catholic hymns and images.

“For me, there is nothing wrong with praying the rosary or doing the stations of the cross,” he noted.

According to Father Ugwu, in the ministry’s early days, masses were conducted, and priests were invited, even after the Archbishop of Lagos disapproved.

He explained that the ministry resorted to underhanded methods to continue these practices, often inviting priests from abroad to validate their Catholic affiliation.

“The problem of the Zion minister started from the beginning, it was founded on deception,” Father Ugwu wrote,

stressing that if Evangelist Obi truly wanted a Catholic ministry, he would have followed the proper procedures set by the Church.

Father Ugwu further expressed concern about Zion Ministry’s current operations, noting that they hold Sunday services and Lenten stations of the cross, coinciding with Catholic mass times.

“Today, there are Sunday services in Zion ministry at a time when Catholics are supposed to go to mass,” he observed, questioning why Evangelist Obi did not clarify the ministry’s status earlier to avoid confusion.

He also criticized Catholics who defend Zion Ministry, often at the expense of the Church’s authority.

“Even more worrying is that people who call themselves Catholics will prefer to insult a Catholic priest because he tries to tell them the truth,” he lamented.

Father Ugwu urged Zion members and followers of Evangelist Obi to refrain from dismissive or disrespectful responses to his critique…..Discover More
