Us Ambassador: Israel’s Impatience In Receiving Weapons Understandable

US Ambassador Jack Lew acknowledges Israel’s urgency in receiving weapons as understandable, but he emphasizes that the US system is still moving rapidly, though perhaps not at the October 8th speed.

Speaking at the annual Herzliya Conference, Lew pointed out that the initial pace of weapons delivery cannot be physically sustained indefinitely due to inevitable supply issues, according to Times of Israel.

He addressed recent concerns by noting that while one shipment of large-diameter bombs faced delays, deliveries of precision-guided missiles continued. This issue resurfaced in the news last week after Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu released a video urging US President Joe Biden to lift holds on weapons shipments.

Lew expressed confusion over claims that the Biden administration is not sufficiently supportive of Israel during its war on Hamas, asserting, “We support Israel and we will continue to support Israel.”

He highlighted the close cooperation between the two nations, stating, “We’ve done what the closest of friends do. We’ve shared mostly in private where things stand and where things need to go.”

The Ambassador reiterated that the US has been advising Israel to conduct the war in a manner that reflects their shared values and aims for a better future.

He acknowledged Israel’s significant and ongoing humanitarian assistance efforts and clarified that the US does not believe there is a famine in Gaza.

Furthermore, Lew called for more clarity on the future governance of Gaza post-Hamas, stressing the importance of having a clear vision to avoid reverting to the current state.

“The real issue in terms of wisdom is having a vision of where it goes afterwards… You need a vision where you don’t end up back where you started again,” he stated.
