According to the report from the Punch, the Founder and President of the Arewa Youth Consultative Forum, Alhaji Yerima Shettima has attributed the current economic challenges faced by President Tinubu’s government to the mismanagement and corruption that took place during former President Buhari’s tenure.
Arguing that the current issues, such as the unstable exchange rate and the fuel subsidy removal, are consequences of past economic missteps, he called for a more proactive approach in addressing these problems.
He emphasized the need for President Tinubu to focus on recovering stolen funds from previous government officials, asserting that these resources could significantly alleviate the country’s financial burdens and contribute to the betterment of Nigerian citizens.
He said, “What is happening now that has never happened during Buhari’s administration? Was it not under Buhari that people were killed anyhow? The issue of the exchange rate is happening because of how the last administration bastardised the economy, and Tinubu is just managing the crisis now. About the fuel subsidy removal, Tinubu just pronounced it. The budget prepared by Buhari did not provide for it.
The money stolen by people under Buhari crippled the economy. The money that they have stolen is enough to clear our budget in one year at the expense of close to 300 million Nigerians.
