Governor Abiodun Establishes Two New Agencies, Restricts Traditional Rulers From Land Agreements

According to Vanguard, Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State has issued three Executive Orders, according to an announcement made on Saturday in Abeokuta.

Mr. Kayode Akinmade, the governor’s Special Adviser on Media and Strategy, stated that two of the orders establish new agencies, while the third restricts traditional rulers from signing any Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) regarding land in the state.

The newly established agencies are the Ogun State Mineral Resources Development Agency and the Ogun State Landscaping and Recreation Agency.

“In addition to the establishment of these two agencies, the third executive order prevents traditional rulers from entering into any form of agreement or MoU related to mining activities or other land matters within their domains,” Akinmade explained.

He further detailed that the Mineral Resources Development Agency will collaborate with host communities to conduct geo-technical and geological surveys of solid mineral deposits.

“The second agency is tasked with sustaining the Ministry of Environment’s achievements in environmental regeneration and restoration. This will include creating parks, gardens, and recreational centers statewide to preserve the biodiversity and ecosystem,” he added.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that these executive orders take immediate effect.

“Executive Order One is based on Section 5(2) of the 1999 Constitution, which grants the governor the authority to exercise executive powers for effective state governance.

“The Mineral Resources Development Agency will work with communities and local governments to conduct geo-technical surveys of solid mineral deposits and maintain relevant data. The agency aims to organize the solid minerals sector in the best interest of the state.

“To achieve its goals, the agency will be funded through regulatory fees, budgetary allocations, grants, and financial interventions from local and international partners, as well as gifts and other legitimate contributions,” Akinmade explained…..Discover More
