A statue of Minister of Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has been pulled down from Obi Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State.

Angry youths pulled down the statue during a protest over tenure of local government chairmen.

The crisis between the camps of Governor Siminalayi Fubara and Wike has shifted to the local government area.

Fubara and Wike fell out barely three months after the latter succeeded the former as Rivers governor.

The duo have been involved in heated exchanges but the situation has been calm for a while.

However, the tenure of Local Government chairmen reignited the dispute.

After the directive, youths in large numbers trooped to LGA secretariats across the state.

In Obi Akpor where Wike served as Chairman for two terms, some youths destroyed a statue that was erected in his honour.

One of them was heard shouting, “No more Wike”, while others joined hands to scatter the object.

Buba Galadima, a chieftain of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), has asked the federal government and President Bola Tinubu to stay away from Kano state politics.

There is currently a controversy in the state over the reinstatement of Muhammadu Sanusi as 16th Emir of Kano following the signing of the new Kano Emirate Council Law and deposition of Aminu Bayero.

Speaking in an interview with Arise Television, on Monday, Galadima said Tinubu should be mindful of his intervention in the state politics because it will “destroy his presidency”.

Galadima said if Boko Haram can hold Nigeria ransom in the last 13 to 14 years, Tinubu will not be able to withstand the issue that will come from Kano if he interferes in the state politics.

FG promises to ensure Ojude Oba festival gets UNESCO’s approval

The Minister of Culture, Art and Creative Economy, Hannatu Musa-Musawa, has said the Federal Government will activate plans to list the annual Ojude Oba Festival in Ijebu Ode,

Ogun State, as one of the festivals backed by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation.

This is just as Musa-Musawa also said that the annual festival is in tune with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda mandate for the ministry, which seeks to take revenue generation from tourism to over $100bn by 2030.

The minister, who was represented by the Director of Cultural Agencies and Heritage, Dr Ben Anama, disclosed this while speaking on Tuesday at this year’s festival held at Awujale’s pavilion, Ijebu-Ode.

The festival, which showcases the rich cultural heritage and endowments of the people of Ijebuland, is celebrated every third day of Eid-el-Adha.

ICAO rating: NCAA spokesman tags Keyamo critics ‘puff puff sellers’

The Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection of the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority, Michael Achimugu, has dismissed criticisms against the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo,

over the recent ratings of Nigeria aviation at the recently concluded International Civil Aviation Organisation which conducted the Universal Security Audit Programme-Continuous Monitoring Approach.

In its security outcome, ICAO, the apex international regulator of global civil aviation operations rated Nigeria to have scored 71.04 per cent, a rating which had been tackled by some aviation experts.

In a strongly-worded report by Public affairs analyst, Iliyasu Gadu, berated the minister for the ratings saying,

“ From an all-time high score of 96.03 per cent when the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO)

conducted the Universal Security Audit Programme-Continuous Monitoring Approach (USAP-CMA) in June 2015 to 71.04 per cent in the recently concluded audit in March 2024.
