The Short -Changing Of Igbos In Southeast Is The Reason Why IPOB Found A Place For Itself-Edwin Clark

Chief Edwin Clark, a prominent Nigerian elder statesman and former Federal Commissioner for Information, has written to President Bola Tinubu, asserting that the marginalisation of the Igbos in the South East is the primary catalyst for the rise of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).

According to PUNCH, Clark explained that the persistent neglect and deprivation faced by the region have fueled IPOB’s appeal among the youth, who view the group’s call for self-determination as a viable solution to their grievances.

According to Clark, the widespread support for IPOB among young people is a direct result of their disenfranchisement and the government’s failure to address their needs.

In his letter, Clark recounted his personal observations of IPOB’s activities in Awka, Anambra State, underscoring the urgency of addressing the issues driving the group’s ideology.

He stressed that the government’s indifference to the region’s plight has left many young people feeling hopeless and alienated, leading them to rally behind IPOB’s cause.

Clark urged President Tinubu to take immediate and concrete steps to address the underlying factors contributing to the marginalisation of the South East.

He emphasised the importance of fostering an inclusive and equitable society where all regions and ethnic groups have equal opportunities and representation. According to Clark, addressing these issues is crucial for national unity and stability.

The elder statesman also called on President Tinubu to initiate a dialogue with leaders from the South East to develop a comprehensive plan for addressing the region’s grievances.

He suggested that such a plan should include measures to improve infrastructure, boost economic development, and ensure fair representation of Igbos in federal appointments and decision-making processes.

Edwin Clark said, “The short-changing of the Igbos of the South East over the years is the reason why IPOB has fashioned a place for itself in the hearts and minds of the young people in the South East with its demand for self-determination.

“I have physically seen these IPOB boys in action at Ekwueme Square in Awka, Anambra State, when I attended a meeting of the Southern and Middle Belt Leaders Forum there…..Discover More
