The Igbos Of South-East Or Wherever They Are, Must Stand Up And Assert Their Rights–Edwin Clark

According to Vanguard, Chief Edwin Clark, former Federal Commissioner for Information and prominent South South leader, has formally addressed President Bola Tinubu, urging the prompt implementation of the 2014 National Conference report.

In a letter to President Tinubu, Clark emphasized the critical need for restructuring the nation post-election to ensure Nigeria’s unity and inclusiveness. Clark, who recently turned 97 on May 25th, framed this as his urgent message to the nation, highlighting the importance of reintegrating marginalized groups, particularly the Igbos, into the country’s mainstream.

Dated June 13th, 2024, Clark’s letter to President Tinubu has been made public. Clark’s appeal is rooted in a broader call for restructuring, aiming to address long-standing grievances and promote national cohesion. He believes that implementing the 2014 National Conference recommendations is essential for achieving these goals. The elder statesman argues that such measures are necessary to mend the social and political fabric of Nigeria, ensuring that every ethnic group benefits equally.

This letter reflects ongoing concerns about marginalization and the quest for a more inclusive Nigeria. By advocating for the rights of the Igbos and other groups, Clark continues to champion a vision of a restructured and united nation where all citizens enjoy equal opportunities and rights.

He said: “The Igbos of South-East or wherever they are in Nigeria, must stand up and assert their rights legitimately, judiciously and in a democratic way to benefit like any other Nigerian as it was before the civil war of 1967….Discover More
