Buhari Did Everything To Subjugate Igbos, Say Edwin Clark

Southwestern region and only a paltry 6 from the South. There is no justification for this discrimination and injustice.”

In a professional capacity, Chief Edwin Clark, leader of the Ijaw Nation, conveyed allegations of marginalization against former President Muhammadu Buhari in a communication addressed to President Bola Tinubu.

According to Clark, Buhari purportedly demonstrated a bias against the Igbo population residing in the South-Eastern region of Nigeria during his tenure, notably through the exclusion of the South East from certain key appointments.

Clark noted that the South East was notably absent from appointments to the Board of the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation, despite the region’s significant contribution to oil production through states like Abia, Anambra, and Imo.

Additionally, he referenced the inadequate allocation of funds from a substantial loan, where the South East purportedly received less than 1% as opposed to other zones receiving higher percentages for infrastructural projects. The former President’s apparent failure to appoint service chiefs from the South East was also highlighted as an instance of perceived marginalization.

Quoting directly from Chief Edwin Clark’s letter to President Bola Tinubu, he stated, “President Buhari did everything to subjugate the Igbos for reasons best known to him. Perhaps it may be necessary to cite some examples…” The letter also elaborated on specific instances where the Southeast was allegedly overlooked or underrepresented in key decision-making processes under Buhari’s administration.

Further, Chief Clark drew parallels between the perceived injustices experienced under Buhari’s leadership and the continuation of discriminatory practices in the current administration. He pointed out what he perceived as imbalances in Ministerial appointments, highlighting a disparity in the number of appointments between the Southwestern region and the South. Clark emphasized the importance of equitable representation and decried the alleged persistence of discriminatory practices against the Igbo population.

It is imperative for authorities to thoroughly investigate and address allegations of marginalization to ensure inclusive and fair governance across all regions of Nigeria…..Discover More
